LRP Wins Penultimate Round of Schumacher BTCC
The UK LRP team performed well last weekend by placing several cars in the modified A final at the latest round of the Schumacher BTCC series.
Olly Jefferies qualified 2nd on the grid with his LRP powered Associated TC6, while Chris Kerswell qualified 3rd, these two just behind British Champion Chris Grainger. Mark Stiles spent much of qualifying in 6th place, but dropped to 8th in the overall positions after deciding not to run new tyres on his car for the last qualifier.
In leg 1 of the A final, Chris got off to a bad start and a trip into the grass following a collision with another car left him only able to salvage a 9th place finish. Mark fared slightly better and ran in 4th place for much of the race, but an error during the closing stages frustratingly dropped him to 7th. Meanwhile at the front, Olly was involved in a 3-way battle for the win which continued until the very last corner. Olly crossed the line in 2nd place, just behind Matt White.
The second leg was better for Chris; a clean run enabled him to finish 3rd just behind Olly who was 2nd again. Mark was pushed down the field in the early stages, but eventually recovered to 6th after a making a couple of nice overtaking moves to move up the field.
Olly’s brace of 2nd place finishes netted him the overall win, as the two leg winners had bad runs in their other races. The results left Chris in 6th overall, while Mark was 8th, suffering significantly from his late mistake in leg 1. The team are now looking forward to the penultimate round of the BRCA nationals at Aldershot in 2 weeks time.
